Obverse: Liberty seated left, radiate head, holding lictor's fasces, a sheaf of wheat at her side. Legend RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. Signature BARRE. Date 1879 in exergue. Reverse: legend COCHINCHINE FRANÇAISE. Denomination 20 CENT within a wreath, TITRE 0,900 POIDS 5,443. Mint letter A (Paris) at the centre.

With the barred anchor. Only minor handling and wear marks. Attractive grey toning. Mint State.

Note: French Cochinchina was the first French colony on the Indochinese peninsula. It briefly issued its own coinage, including these 20 cent, before these issues gave way to the unified coinage of French Indochina. These Cochinchina coins are its direct forerunners and are sought after by collectors.
