Provisional Government (1944-1946), silver 20 francs Turin pattern 1945, struck at Paris.
Obverse: laureate head of the Republic right, signed P. TURIN, legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. Reverse: denomination 20 FRANCS, date 1945 and motto LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE between two sheaves of wheat, the word ESSAI.
Specimen strike, as struck, the fields covered with pleasing iridescent toning. Rare. Specimen.

Note: the 20 francs Turin, a large silver coin designed by Pierre Turin, was struck for circulation from 1929 to 1939. This 1945 pattern, produced at the end of the war, bears witness to a planned revival that never came about: silver then gave way to base metals in everyday coinage. It is therefore the pattern of a type that was never reissued.
