Second Republic (1848-1852), 2 francs Ceres 1850 struck at Paris.
Obverse: head of Ceres left, wearing a wreath of wheat ears, flowers and foliage, a star above, signed E. A. OUDINÉ F., legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. Reverse: denomination 2 FRANCS and date 1850 within an oak and laurel wreath tied with a ribbon, legend LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE. Mint letter A (Paris) in exergue.
Magnificent example with delicate toning and green-gold highlights. Mint State.
An example in finer condition than the one in the Collection Idéale.
Note: with a mintage of 857,000 and genuine circulation, the 2 francs Ceres is rarely encountered in very high grade, being the large silver coin that suffered most from handling. A Mint State example of this calibre is therefore a coin of the very first rank for the Second Republic series.
