Louis XIV (1643-1715), louis d'or à l'écu, reformation of 1691, struck at Rouen.
Obverse: mature laureate bust of the king right, wearing a full-bottomed wig. Legend LVD XIIII D G FR ET NAV REX. Reverse: crowned shield of France bearing three fleurs-de-lis. Legend SIT NOMEN DOMINI BENEDICTVM. Date 1691 and mint letter B (Rouen) at the top.
A virtually perfect reformation, light toning over the original mint lustre. Mint State.

From the Plozevet Hoard (Finistère), discovered in 2019, no. 196, with its certificate.
Note: the Plozevet Hoard is one of the most important Ancien Régime coin hoards unearthed in France in recent decades. Discovered by chance in 2019 in Finistère, it comprised 239 gold coins of the reigns of Louis XIII and Louis XIV, all struck in the 17th century and exceptionally well preserved. Every example from this hoard is accompanied by an individual certificate attesting to its provenance.
