Louis XIV (1643-1715), louis d'or à la grande perruque, 1683, struck at Lyon.
Obverse: mature laureate and draped bust of the king right, wearing a full-bottomed wig. Reverse: cross formed of eight addorsed L's, each arm crowned, cantoned with four lis radiating from the centre. Mint letter D (Lyon) in the centre.
Wig type, a very rare coin. Light toning over the original mint lustre. Mint State.

From the Plozevet Hoard (Finistère), discovered in 2019, no. 96, with its certificate.
Note: the Plozevet Hoard is one of the most important Ancien Régime coin hoards unearthed in France in recent decades. Discovered by chance in 2019 in Finistère, it comprised several hundred louis d'or of the 17th and 18th centuries, exceptionally well preserved.
