Obverse: Hercules standing at the centre, uniting Liberty and Equality, legend UNION ET FORCE, signature DUPRE in exergue. Reverse: denomination 5 FRANCS and L'AN 7 within an oak and laurel wreath, legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. Mint letter T (Nantes) and privy marks.
A complete example, free of strike weakness, with attractive lustre. Even wear on the high points and a few hairlines in the fields. Cleaned coin, graded AU Details by PCGS. Rare for the type. About Uncirculated details.
Note: the Union et Force type, engraved by Augustin Dupré, depicts Hercules, embodiment of the strength of the people, uniting Liberty and Equality. It is one of the great creations of Revolutionary numismatics. Struck at Nantes with a mintage of only 35,000, this Year 7 date is considerably rarer there than the Paris strikes, which explains its value despite the cleaning.
