Napoleon III (1852-1870), 5 francs bare head 1854 struck at Paris.
Obverse: bare head of Napoleon III left, signed BOUVET F. below the neck, legend NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR. Reverse: crowned great imperial arms, shield bearing the eagle on a mantle, sceptres in saltire and collar of the Legion of Honour, legend EMPIRE FRANÇAIS, denomination 5 F on either side, date 1854 in exergue. Mint letter A (Paris).
Only minute handling marks and a few hairlines in the fields. Light toning. Mint State.
Note: the bare head 5 francs of Napoleon III was struck only briefly, in 1854 and 1855, and in small quantities, as the large silver denomination was then little issued under the Second Empire. This type is consequently considerably rarer than the laureate head 5 francs of the following years.
