Louis XV (1715-1774), 12 sols Isles du Vent, 1731 struck at La Rochelle.
Obverse: laureate head of the king right. Legend LVD XV D G FR ET NAV REX. Mint letter H (La Rochelle) below the neck. Reverse: ISLES DU VENT in three lines within an ornate cartouche, fleurs-de-lis. Date 1731 in exergue.
On a fairly broad planchet, strike barely off-centre. Close to as-struck condition, cabinet toning with golden highlights. A perfect coin. Mint State.

Note: the Isles du Vent refers to the French Lesser Antilles, Martinique, Guadeloupe and their dependencies. These 12 sols were struck in 1731 for circulation in these Caribbean colonies. A colonial issue distinct from the metropolitan coinage, it is now particularly sought after by collectors.
