Louis XVIII (1814-1824), 20 francs clothed bust 1814 struck at Paris.
Obverse: clothed bust of Louis XVIII right, signed Tiolier below the bust, legend LOUIS XVIII ROI DE FRANCE. Reverse: crowned shield of France between an olive branch and a laurel branch, legend PIECE DE 20 FRANCS, date 1814 in exergue. Mint letter A (Paris).
Long 4 variety. Of attractive freshness, the matte velvety bloom barely touched, only a few bag marks. Mint State.
Note: this gold 20 francs belongs to the first coinage of the Restoration. On the return of Louis XVIII in 1814, after Napoleon's first abdication, imperial gold gave way to the 20 francs struck with the royal type, shield of fleurs-de-lis and the title ROI DE FRANCE. The clothed bust, the inaugural effigy, was used only in 1814 and 1815 before the adoption of the bare head, which makes it a brief and sought-after type.
