Consulate (1799-1804), 5 francs module commemorating the First Consul's visit to the Paris Mint, 21 Ventôse Year XI, struck at Paris.

Obverse: bare head of Bonaparte right, signed TIOLIER F. below the neck, legend BONAPARTE PREMIER CONSUL. Reverse: inscription in five lines LE Ier CONSUL VISITE L'HÔTEL DES MONNAIES LE 21 VENTOSE AN XI. Reeded edge.

Note: this module commemorates the visit of Bonaparte, then First Consul, to the Paris Mint on 21 Ventôse Year XI, that is, 12 March 1803. It preceded by only a few days the law of 7 Germinal Year XI, which established the franc germinal, the monetary system that was to govern French coinage for more than a century. A medallic piece at the heart of a founding moment in French monetary history.
