Napoleon I (1804-1814), franc with bare head, Republican calendar, AN 13, struck at Paris.
Obverse: bare head of Napoleon right, signed Tiolier below the bust, legend NAPOLEON EMPEREUR. Reverse: denomination 1 FRANC within a wreath formed of two branches tied at the base, date AN 13 below, legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. Mint letter A (Paris) on the reverse.
Slight circulation wear. Magnificent grey toning with golden highlights. Mint State.
Note: this franc belongs to the transitional type struck with Republican calendar dates (AN 12 to AN 14). The obverse already bears the imperial title NAPOLEON EMPEREUR, while the reverse retains the legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE, a direct witness to the transition from the Consulate to the Empire. The type was subsequently replaced by Gregorian calendar dates from 1806 onwards.
