Louis XV (1715-1774), louis d'or aux lunettes, 1726, struck at Paris.
Obverse: youthful draped bust of the king left, with long curly hair. Reverse: two conjoined crowned oval shields, one of France bearing three fleurs-de-lis, the other of Navarre. Mint letter A (Paris) below the shields.
Close to as-struck condition. With its Rue Mouffetard Hoard certificate. Prestigious pedigree. Mint State.

Note: the Rue Mouffetard Hoard is one of the most celebrated coin finds of 20th-century Paris. Unearthed in 1938 during building works at 53 rue Mouffetard, it comprised hundreds of louis d'or of Louis XV hidden in the early 18th century. Its dispersal by the firm S.C.V.M. (Société de Conservation des Valeurs Monétaires, 104 rue de Richelieu) made every example from this hoard particularly sought after, each accompanied by its certificate of origin.
