Louis XIV (1643-1715), louis d'or au soleil, 1709 struck at Pau for Béarn.

Obverse: mature laureate head of the king right, wearing a long wig. Legend LVD XIIII D G FR ET NA RE B. Date 1709 in exergue. Reverse: cross formed of eight crowned L's addorsed in pairs, a sun at the centre, fleurs-de-lis in the angles. Legend CHRS REGN VINC IMP, for Christus regnat, vincit, imperat.

Even wear, light golden patina. About Uncirculated.

Very rare. From Künker sale 269 of 1 October 2015, lot 6079.

Note: struck at Pau for Béarn, these coins bear a cow, emblem of Béarn, as a mint mark in place of the usual letter.
