Louis XIV (1643-1715), louis d'or à l'écu, 1690 reformation, struck at Lyon.

Obverse: mature laureate bust of the king right, wearing a full-bottomed wig. Legend LVD XIIII D G FR ET NAV REX. Reverse: crowned shield of France bearing three fleurs-de-lis. Legend BENEDICTVM SIT NOMEN DOMINI. Date 1690 and mint letter D (Lyon) at the top.

Perfect reformation, practically imperceptible on the obverse and complete on the reverse. Light handling marks. Mint State.

Note: a reformation coin, overstruck in 1690 on an earlier coin during the recoinage, hence the near-total absence of traces of the original striking.
