Louis-Philippe I (1830-1848), 5 francs with bare head, without the I, 1830, struck at Paris. Variety with raised edge lettering.

Obverse: bare head of the king right, signed Tiolier, legend LOUIS PHILIPPE I ROI DES FRANÇAIS. Reverse: denomination 5 FRANCS and date 1830 within a laurel and olive wreath. Mint letter A (Paris) to the left of the date, Tiolier's anchor to the right.

Slight wear on the high points and attractive iridescent cabinet toning. Mint State.

Note: the "raised edge lettering" variety (RAISED on the NGC slab) corresponds to the very first striking of Louis-Philippe I after his accession to the throne in July 1830. This raised edge lettering, inherited from the technique of earlier issues, was soon replaced by incuse edge lettering in the course of the year. The 1830 raised-edge examples are therefore short issues, particularly sought after as witnesses to the transition between the Restoration and the July Monarchy.
