Honoré V (1819-1841), silver pattern for the 1/2 franc, 1838, struck at the Paris Mint.

Obverse: bare head of the prince left. Legend HONORE V PRINCE DE MONACO. Signature E. ROGAT below the bust. Reverse: crowned lozengy shield of Monaco, supported by two monks armed with swords. 1/2 FRANC and date 1838 M in exergue. Signature E.R. to the right.

Proof strike, reeded edge, cabinet toning with rose highlights. Rare. Proof.

Note: the two monks supporting the shield recall the capture of the Rock in 1297 by Francesco Grimaldi, who entered the fortress disguised as a monk.
