Louis XV (1715-1774), double louis d'or au bandeau 1750 struck at Bayonne.

Obverse: head of Louis XV left, hair bound with a fillet, legend LUD XV D G FR ET NAV REX. Reverse: two conjoined crowned oval shields of France and Navarre, legend CHRS REGNAT VINCIT IMPERAT, date 1750. Mint letter L (Bayonne).

Of attractive freshness, the velvety mint bloom preserved, only a few minute marks in the fields. Broad, well-centred planchet. Rare date and mint. Mint State.

Note: the double louis d'or was the highest gold denomination in circulating coinage under Louis XV, a prestige coin seldom preserved in high grade. Struck at Bayonne in 1750 in only 1,446 examples, this date is a great rarity, all the more so in such fresh condition.
