Les frères Monneron, négociants parisiens, font alors frapper à Birmingham, dans l’atelier de Soho de Matthew Boulton, des « médailles de confiance ». La formule « médaille qui se vend deux sols » leur évite de se présenter comme une monnaie. L’aventure tourne court : faillite en mars 1792, loi du 3 mai 1792 interdisant la fabrication des monnaies privées, puis décret de septembre en interdisant la vente. Ces pièces circulent pourtant jusqu’à la fin de 1793.
