An example that has barely circulated, grey cabinet toning with bluish highlights. Rare mint. Mint State.

Note: this 1/4 écu was reformed, that is, restruck on an earlier coin, here a 1/4 écu of 1711 whose impression still shows through in places. This practice, common during the recoinages of the early reign of Louis XV, gives each example a history of its own. The type owes its nickname "vertugadin" to the widely flared drapery of the young king, which evokes the vertugadin, or farthingale, the padded roll worn under court gowns.

https://taittingernumismatics.com/en-hk/products/france-louis-xv-1-4-ecu-vertugadin-1716-riom-pcgs-ms64
